‘Confluence’ - November 2022
This exhibition of paintings and ceramic forms is a narrative of the Murrumbidgee River. It starts at Long Plain with the image of Tantangara, not far from my childhood home in the Snowy Mountains, and with no indication of human habitation. As the paintings follow the river downstream, the impact of European settlement becomes obvious, where as for thousands of years indigenous people made very little change. Farming and cropping practices have radically changed the natural landscape and it is this intrusion by western settlers that has created the most dramatic contrast with the natural meanderings of the river. The journey ends with the image of Confluence where the Murrumbidgee meets the Murray River.
